About this destination

Bali is Indonesia’s most visited island — a place where volcano hikes at dawn, temple ceremonies at dusk, and beach-club sunsets can all happen in the same day. Beyond the crowded south, you’ll find quiet rice-terrace villages, artisan workshops, and boutique stays that feel worlds away from package-tour Bali. Ternigo builds Bali trips around how you actually travel: private drivers with buffer time, hand-picked hotels (with clear upgrade paths), and day-by-day plans you can tweak before you book. We surface visa rules, local etiquette, and realistic daily budgets so there are no surprises — only the good kind, like your first view of Tegallalang or the Kecak fire dance at Uluwatu. Whether you want honeymoon calm in Ubud, surf and cafés in Canggu, or a multi-base route (Ubud → Uluwatu → Nusa islands), this destination profile is your single source of truth before you pick a package.

Local rules & etiquette

Do

  • ✓Wear a sarong and sash at temples (often provided or rented at entrance)
  • ✓Use Grab or Gojek for transparent fares; share trip with a friend
  • ✓Bargain politely at markets — smile and walk away if unsure
  • ✓Remove shoes before entering temple inner courtyards and homestays
  • ✓Carry small IDR notes for temple donations and parking
  • ✓Respect local ceremonies — roads may close for processions

Don't

  • ✕Do not drink tap water or brush teeth with it
  • ✕Do not touch people’s heads or point feet at shrines
  • ✕Do not fly drones near temples without permission
  • ✕Do not step on offerings (canang sari) on pavements
  • ✕Avoid illegal taxi touts at the airport arrival hall
  • ✕Do not swim outside flagged areas — rips are common on south coast

Must-try dishes

  • Nasi Goreng — Wok-fried rice with kecap manis, egg, and sambal — Indonesia’s comfort dish
  • Mie Goreng — Stir-fried noodles, often with chicken or seafood
  • Babi Guling — Spit-roast suckling pig with crackling — Bali’s celebratory feast (non-veg)
  • Lawar — Traditional mix of minced meat, coconut, and spices (ask for veg versions in Ubud)
  • Sate Lilit — Minced fish or chicken wrapped around lemongrass sticks, grilled
  • Es Campur / Es Cendol — Shaved ice desserts — perfect after a temple morning

Food & dietary notes

Balinese cuisine is rice-centric with sambal, satay, and fresh seafood. Seminyak, Canggu, and Ubud have excellent pure-veg, vegan, and Indian restaurants (e.g. near Petitenget and Ubud centre). Street food is delicious but choose busy stalls. Tap water is not drinkable — stick to sealed bottled water and avoid ice if you have a sensitive stomach. Alcohol is available at licensed venues; arak (local spirit) quality varies — stick to known bars.
